Overview: The Gateway School, located in Manhattan’s upper west side, is a new charter school being constructed in the shadow of New York’s Fordham University. The school will be the first LEED certified school in Manhattan.
The school is utilizing the entire sixth floor of what was previously office space and the architectural team made the decision to install radiant floor heating throughout the entire school.
In keeping with the city-wide emphasis on utilizing only “green” products in schools, long time Maxxon Applicator New York Gypsum Floors first installed a layer of environmentally benign foam board followed by a 1½” topping of Therma-Floor “Green” formulation manufactured in Camden, NJ. Floor finishes will be VCT, ceramic, and a synthetic sport floor for the Gymnasium/Cafeteria.
