Understanding WOSB Allocation on Federal Contracts

Beginning in 2011, the U.S. Small Business Administration published new guidelines aimed at expanding federal contracting opportunities for women-owned small businesses (WOSBs). The Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) Federal Contract program authorizes contracting officers to set aside certain federal contracts for eligible WOSBs. Contracts under the Women-Owned Small Business Federal Contract Program require that 5% of the work be awarded to WOSB certified companies.

In July, Maxxon announced our certification as a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE). By gaining WBE certification, Maxxon Corporation provided architects with the ability to allocate WBE funds to the floor/ceiling assembly. Due to the interest generated by our WBE status, Maxxon was compelled to pursue Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) certification as a benefit to architects designing federal projects with the WOSB provision. Maxxon products used on a WOSB Federal Contract will contribute towards the 5% WOSB contract goal.
